About

Ice climbing is gaining in popularity and more and more climbers are joining the sport. Can you blame them? Our sport is a great way to get outside and have fun. The Catskill Mountain Range has tons of climbing, so why cram everyone into just a handful of beat-out areas? ClimbCatskillIce was started in 2010 to highlight some of the lesser-known areas in the Catskills in order to ease the traffic on the classics. Areas like Hobo Wall and Herdman Wall can provide a place for beginners to practice their technique, freeing up the traditionally more popular areas such as Stoney Clove. In the past, publishing information on lesser known areas has proven to reduce crowds in places like Red River Gorge and Joshua Tree. Do your part to ease crowding: if you have details on a lesser known area or climb - post it!
